The grandson has remained working part-time for the landscaping outfit he worked for prior to getting his full-time gig as a welder. He called me about doing an aluminum welding job on their skid-steer at my place. Since the weather was good and he works for them on Saturday, they delivered the machine Friday afternoon, the grandson showed up 8:00 Saturday morning and we went to work.
The grandson had mentioned more than once he could weld aluminum, but welding on a bench on new, clean aluminum is not the same as welding on greasy, broken pieces buried down inside a machine. I helped him with the prep, mostly because he's not familiar with my tools and equipment. He did all the welding, I was the helper, fire watch and coach. The job came out looking nice, he learned a little bit and he was on the clock while here. Win/win.
